I bought this grill since a friend loved it, even though some Amazon reviews scared me. All I did was bend the little hook at the very top that latches the plate in (I bent it upward), and that solved the problem. I have used it now for a few months and love it.The good: it grills steaks, chicken, veggies, and paninis very well and fast. It's great. The bad: my top plate also kept falling off (I was very upset and wanted to return it). Now the top plate never falls off.Overall, this grill is amazing. It saves a lot of time, and the paninis that come out of it are amazing.
Can't recommend this item AT ALL. I want a refund, not a replacement so we will see.
The Panini we made was not grilled well in the center and a bit soggy. Bought the Breville Ikon 1800-Watt Removable-Plate Grill on March 14th received it around the 20th and used it ONLY four (4) times since it arrived and it cooked pretty good for hamburgers and steak, although grease ran out the back all over the counter behind the unit somehow (from the lid being lifted).
because it didn't break fast enough **within 30 days**, so I will wait and see what the manufacturer will do. I could live with that however, since it did well with meat.I read the reviews that gave it "1 Star" and hoped I'd get lucky and receive a good unit, but it was not to be.
For a total cost of $169.95 (including shipping) this product should have lasted longer than this. It's too late to return it to ABT Electronics, Inc. I am already on hold for over 18 minutes without a human person answering the call.
Too bad I bought another Breville product the same day and haven't had a chance to see if that will break too, after only four uses.
Now that is hot. I even measured the temperature of the plates with a probe.
It is great. I have been using this grill almost daily for six months.
Cleaning is easy because of the removable plates. I cooked almost anything that can be grilled.
I am really satisfied with this grill. It went up to 500 F.
i recommend this to anyone, who has some spare space on the kitchen counter.
Now, about five months later, my second grill has stopped working in precisely the same manner. I'm not giving the grill one star because it is well-designed (aside from breaking) and Breville's customer service is very good. As much as I like the grill, I'm going to say avoid it, because it's a headache to return a product like this (especially if you dont' have a car). My guess is that the power supply for this model grill is defective, a view reinforced by the number of people on this board who've had the exact problem I have. My first grill simply stopped working after a month, as in wouldn't turn on. That said, Breville will give you a fedex label, so no shipping reimbursement headaches, and they're really expedient on the phone. But still -- who want's to deal with that.
I would have bought another Breville, but I have a Breville juicer that was broken when I received it, and had to wait over 4 weeks before they sent me a replacement. Loved this grill until it broke. This is my 4th Breville appliance and so far most of them had issues. My Breville blender died after a year. It basically died; did not get hot at all, no light etc. Since it was out of the warranty period, this one went straight to the garbage. they all look good, but quality is severely lacking. I would never buy any Breville product anymore.
